Sometimes, you are just ready for a hobby change. Other times, you need some liquid cash, and the valuables you have on hand can provide that. When you decide to sell your coin collection, then you definitely should get every penny's worth (literally!) out of the collection. Here is how to do just that.
Have Every Coin Appraised, Packaged, and Labeled
If you do not already have all of your coins packaged, labeled, and appraised for individual value, go do that now. You cannot expect to get the dollar amount you want for your collection based on your amateur estimate of what the whole collection is worth. A very fair and accurate evaluation of every individual coin is what is needed for you to make a major sale on your collection. It may cost you a little money to find and hire a professional coin appraiser, but it will be worth it if you make some serious bank. All of the coins should be placed in preservation packets that are labeled with the appraiser's value range and each coin's information, including the use of gold or silver, rarity of the coin, age of the coin, date, etc.
Book the Coin Collection
Potential buyers LOVE buying something that is already completely organized for them. They want to flip through the pages of a collection book and get a look at everything they are buying before they buy it. After they choose to buy it, they love looking at their collection and admiring the prize they got for their hard-earned money.
Do not dump your collection out of a bag onto a table in a jumbled and unimpressive mess; organize it in a coin book for buyers to peruse. Also, it helps to organize it from oldest to newest coins in the collection so that buyers can see some of the rarer and older coins you have for sale. Seeing the coins in this order and organized format really gets buyers excited.
Include Any Stories or Information about the Coins
Coins have histories, which means there are stories attached to them and how they came to be in your collection. You are going to run into a buyer or two that is going to want to know how you acquired that mint 1944 steel penny, when so few in that condition are left, or how you found that Roman whorehouse coin on the muddy banks of the Thames when you were in London. These stories make your collection all the more exciting and desirable, and other collectors eat that up. Write down any interesting little blurbs about the most special coins and include it with the collection, along with any certification papers attesting to the history of any special coins.

One day a few years ago, I was forced to take a good, hard look at my finances. I realized that my husband and I were living outside of our means, and I knew that we needed to make some changes and fast. I started looking for ways to spend less money, and I was able to completely eliminate some of our largest expenses. It was a lot of work, but it really helped us to feel more free financially. This blog is here to help other people to spend a little smarter and to avoid the hassles that come along with spending more than you have.
